for the month of july, we're excited to feature anh - also known as @anhecdotes on instagram! she specializes in warm and cozy desk spaces and shares thoughtful photography editing tips. from inviting spaces to nostalgic edits, we're taking a look into her cozy creative world. welcome, anh!

warming up

as a little ice breaker, could you introduce yourself and your content and throw in a little fun fact?

hello, hello! I’m anh (pronounced like ann), the creator behind ‘anhecdotes’. i’m a complete homebody who loves photography, keyboards, and making life as cozy as possible. there’s a lot more hobbies i like to do but i feel like photography and building keyboards define me the most.

outside of that, i’m actually a nurse practitioner, taking care of patients full time! working in healthcare can quickly burn you out, so having cozy hobbies is my escape from the chaos.

my content revolves around my desk and the hobbies i do while spending my time there. i absolutely enjoy sharing them with people and connecting to those with similar interests!

fun fact: i actually ran a studygram account before this while in grad school. after graduating, my husband thought it would be a good idea for me to continue to find hobbies outside of my professional life and encouraged me to open an account where i can share anything and everything. he even came up with my username as a play on word with my name!

we know you’re very much into keyboards and aesthetic desk spaces, but we’d love to know more about your other various hobbies and why you like them!

photography is probably one of my bigger hobbies, and sharing content allows me to practice my skills! i’ve been doing photography as a hobby for about 16 years now (yes, yes, I’m old), and i’m still learning something new about it all the time. when i see something that makes me happy, i always wish that i could remember it forever, so i think that’s why i enjoy photography so much! it’s really true when they say a picture is worth a thousand words!

another hobby i’ve been trying to do more of is journaling. it’s something that i’ve always dabbled in but never fully committed. i want to be more diligent about journaling 3-4 times out of the week, especially since it’s so therapeutic! journaling is such a good way to document your life, even the little day to day things.

outside of content creation, we know you’re also a full time nurse practitioner. how do you manage to balance time between your job, content creation, and your hobbies?

this is probably the HARDEST thing to juggle. i believe it’s about making the effort to make space. don’t let the hard things in life take over, whether it’s work or anything else. make space for the things that make you happy because it’ll make life better, even just by a little.

a part of making space means planning and looking ahead, so my calendar is my best friend! if i know that i’m working monday through friday, i set aside time on the weekends to batch content or enjoy my hobbies. some weeks, it’s just impossible to make time or i just don’t have the energy to do anything, and that’s okay too. take it one day at a time!

keycaps & memories

we know lilac dreams is one of your personal favourite collections, but we're curious to know which osume collection feels the least like you but you still love?

oh, this is such a good question. out of the entire collection, i think night market or horoscope is probably the least like me. if you’ve seen my content, you know i love things bright, warm, pastel, neutral, etc. and those two sets are the complete opposite of that. but i still love it because it’s all about balance. when there is light, there is also darkness…and vice versa.

looking at the horoscope collection, i just love the stars and constellations, especially since it’s something i enjoy seeing in reality too! when it comes to the night market collection, i love that it’s inspired by asian foods, which is so important to me to still connect with my culture.

if you could design an osume collection around a personal memory, what memory would it be?

the first thing i thought of was the mid autumn festival, which osume already has a collection of, one of my favorites! if i give it some more thought, i think it would be a more recent memory from my trip to japan this summer.

i think a lot of people think of cherry blossoms, or sakura, when they hear japan, but i was so happy to see a lot of hydrangeas in bloom during my trip there! they were everywhere! now i’m constantly reminded of japan every time i see hydrangeas too. they also vary from shades of pink, blue, and purple, so it was fun to see what colors i could spot. i heard of fields of hydrangeas where you can also see mt. fuji, so i hope to see that one day!

another fun memory that came to mind was chasing down the ice cream truck with my sister while my grandma went to grab some money in our old neighborhood. i could totally imagine a childhood summer theme focused around ice cream, going to the park, no school, and sunny days!

life through a cozy lens

you’ve put a lot of thought into your editing ‘recipes’. can you tell us more about how you came up with them to make your photos feel very unique to you?

a common theme you see in my content is having the photo/video bright, warm, and cozy. every time my office or home is bright and warm, especially during golden hour, it gives me so much joy in my heart. an instant dopamine boost! i wanted that feeling to reflect in the photos i take, so i can share the same feeling with others – warmth and joy.

i’m currently working on fujifilm simulation recipes, as well as lightroom presets. it’s still a work in progress, just like life in general. i feel like I’m always tweaking it, trying to perfect it. as i continue to improve the recipes or even make new ones, i hope to share it with everyone!

if you could instantly master one creative skill, what would it be?

i think something in music! when i was little, i really enjoyed playing the piano and even tried learning the guitar, but it was never something i mastered or dived into more. looking back, i wish i did! i’m always in awe watching people play any instrument in public. now that i think about it, it’s never too late, so this might be another hobby that i’ll have to pick up!

what’s something you’ve learned about yourself through creating content?

i think i’ve learned that i am a lot more open as a person than i thought i was. i used to think i was closed off, private, and introverted. i like to limit my social interactions for the most part.

over time though, i realized how much i enjoy interacting with others (until my social battery runs out) and sharing my experiences with people all around the world. i’ve connected with so many through content creation, and our conversations range from the hobbies to personal life. that also translated outside of content creation and made it easier for me to converse with people in real life.

is there anything you think would surprise us if we got the opportunity to follow you around for one day?

honestly…i think i’m a pretty predictable person! i try my best to be true to myself through all my interactions, even online, so what you see is what you get! if you follow me around though, you might not get fed since i don’t know how to cook, but i can definitely whip up a good matcha latte!
